Stuck in an Imaginary World

When you’re depressed, full of anxiety and fear, you’re living in an imaginary world. It’s very real to you, but it doesn’t exist in reality. If it did exist, we would all be able to see it. We can’t. It only exists in your mind.

It seems real because you will experience the same states, emotions and moods as if you were having a real external experience. Your mind doesn’t make a distinction between imagination and reality when it comes to producing emotions and feelings.

Your mind takes in whatever is presented to it (reality or imagination) and creates emotions, feelings and moods based on beliefs it has about what it’s experiencing.

The input can be reality experienced through your senses or the input can be created by your imagination. Your mind doesn’t care where the input comes from, it responds.

Have you ever seen someone who is depressed or worried? They’re not even present in this world. They’re living in another world, but it’s all in their imagination.

They have “checked out” as the saying goes.

That’s why practicing living in the moment is so important.

It gets you out of your head and into the real world.
