Truths That Can Set You Free

You only exist in the moment.
You always have and always will. There is no other place you can be.
When have you ever not existed in the present moment?

Your true essence is awareness.
Drop all labels, identities, positions, and stories.
What remains?

Your nature is love.
Drop all judgments, evaluations, criticisms and assessments of yourself and others.
What arises from within when you are free?

You are not your thoughts, not your feelings, not your emotions.
They are like birds, clouds and storms arising in the expansive vastness of the sky.
Your consciousness is the expansive sky in which all arises.
You are the context not the content.
If you can observe your thoughts and feelings, you must be something more.

You can choose to be happy.
In any moment, no matter what is happening, you can make the choice to be happy.
Examine your unhappiness and you’ll find that you are always choosing to be happy or not. It is within your power to be happy.

The world is created inside of you.
A rendition of the objective world is created inside of you by your nervous system and brain. If you lose one of your senses like sight or hearing, the world you experience becomes diminished. When you sleep reality disappears, but your mind may create a completely new dream world for you to experience.

Your past experiences, beliefs, and attitudes all color your rendition of the objective world and it’s easy to be confused about what is real. There are facts and there are interpretations.

How you treat your body determines the quality of your life.
How you take care of your body makes a huge difference in your quality of life. If you eat poorly, don’t sleep well, and avoid exercising, you’ll feel poorly and your mind will not function very well.

Your mind is a function of your body and its vitality and stamina is affected by your physical well being.

The most powerful truth of all – you will pass from this world.
When we face death the unimportant gets stripped away. All the false ideas, all the stories, all of the victimhood means nothing.

When and if you come to a deep understanding of this truth, everything in your life will change. You’ll appreciate and savor the people around you. You won’t get upset about trivial things. You’ll focus on doing what’s important.

Most people never have the courage to face the fact that they will die. It’s an extremely uncomfortable undertaking, but it’s the most powerful transformative work you’ll ever do.
