Nothing creates more drive and energy than having a deep meaningful purpose. It is the secret to living an extraordinary life.

This quote by George Bernard Shaw sums it up:

“This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making me happy.”

“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and, as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live.”

“I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is sort of splendid torch which I’ve got to hold up for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

Absolutely essential

It is imperative for you to connect with a deeply meaningful and contribution centered purpose. You will never live your life fully until you connect with something greater than you.

  • It will drive you through and past your fear.
  • It will motivate you to take action like nothing else can.
  • You won’t have to force yourself to do things –  you’ll be inspired.
  • It will draw people to you. People love a hero with a mission.

This purpose comes from within when you connect with what is deeply meaningful to you. You may have to do some digging because it may be covered over with fear, apathy and comfort. You’ll have to overcome your fears of playing small. Be willing to step-up and stand-up for who you are and what you believe.

“Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.”
Washington Irving

I find a lot of people believe they need to discover their purpose in life before they can start living. They may hesitate for years trying to find the inspiration they seek. Yes, there are a fortunate few who do feel a calling, but for most of us it’s not  that easy. One way to find your purpose is to start serving others in small ways.
It might just ignite the flame you’re looking for.

If you find it difficult to know what your purpose is, here are a few questions you can consider:
  • Whats do you hate?
  • What breaks your heart?
  • What’s your zone of genius?
  • When you’re at your best what are you doing?
  • If you were the bravest version of yourself, what would you be doing?
  • Who would you need to be to live the most extraordinary life you can live?
  • If you were not to hold back in your life, what would you be doing?
  • If you could trust that your loved ones would be fine, what would you do with the rest of your life?
  • If you trusted that your excellence will not put others in your shadow, what would your goals be?
