The Biggest Mistake You’ll Ever Make
You’re making a huge mistake. The biggest mistake of your life. One that will have severe consequences.
“You believe you are your thoughts. You believe your thoughts are true.”
You believe you are your thinking mind. Or to put it another way, the thinking mind is you.
You’re so fused with your thinking, you believe that’s who you are. You are unable to see the thinker who is separate from the thought.
You don’t understand that who you really are is conscious awareness and thought is just a process, a function of your brain. Just like your heart’s job is to beat, your brain’s job is to think.
Your brain produces a continuous stream of thought and because you believe you are your thoughts, you drown in that continual flow of thought. You become submerged in thought and suffocated. You experience that as fear, anxiety, stress and overwhelm
You become the slave of your thinking mind and it rules you.
The rich and beautiful experience of life is happening around you in every moment, but you’re so lost in thought you don’t see it.
Your experience of reality is contaminated by thought.
You buy into the stories your mind produces. You become hypnotized by your thinking and lose contact with reality.
You don’t see yourself and who you really are. You have thoughts about who you are and none of them are true., but you believe they are.
You’re very attached to your thoughts and you believe them to be true. Especially the ones you have about you.
Until you see through the illusion and recognize that you are conscious awareness, your thinking mind will run your life. It will convince you that all the stories it makes up are fact. You’ll believe you are the labels given you by yourself and others.
You will live out your life in a dream. You won’t ever wake up to the truth of who you are and experience the richness of the moment.
You will forever be a slave to your mind.
Not knowing who you are is the biggest mistake of your life.
What Can You Do?
Get curious and begin a process of inquiry.
If you can observe your thoughts, how can you be your thoughts? You must be something bigger or greater than your thoughts.
Are you your name? Or is that just a label your parents gave you? Would changing your name change who you are?
Begin to question all the ideas you have about yourself. All the labels, roles and identities. You’ll realize they’re all fabrications. They are useful, but they are all fictional.
If you’re willing to dig deep and get brutally honest, you will realize the essence of who you are is conscious awareness. You are the observer and the experiencer of life separate from all the thoughts your mind creates.
Why is this so important?
When you see through the illusion your mind creates and recognize that thought is fictional, you get free to experience life uncontaminated by thought. You no longer get hooked by the thoughts your mind creates.
You see thoughts as clouds appearing and disappearing in the sky of awareness. You get free to live in the moment and savor the goodness of life.
The depression, the sadness and all the other uncomfortable emotions lose their power over you. Those are simply thoughts appearing in the awareness of who you are.
You no longer say, “I’m depressed.” You recognize that you are conscious of the feelings of sadness or depression, but they are not who you are. Now you say, “Sadness is here, but like the weather, it will change soon.”
And you become free.
